COMMEMORATING the 125th Anniversary of the Fort
Stanwix Chapter of the National Society Daughters of
the American Revolution

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those patriotic and civic-minded organizations and community
members who dedicate their lives to the service of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
125th Anniversary of the Fort Stanwix Chapter of the National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution; this momentous occasion was
celebrated with a ceremony at the Kingsley Memorial Chapel at Rome
Cemetery in Rome, New York, on Saturday, June 19, 2021, to acknowledge
the chapter's long and distinguished history and to honor the 43 women
who signed the 1896 charter; and

WHEREAS, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a non-profit,
non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to
promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing
America's future through better education for children; and

WHEREAS, DAR members volunteer millions of service hours annually in
their local communities including supporting active duty military
personnel and assisting veteran patients, awarding thousands of dollars
in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and supporting
schools for underserved children; and

WHEREAS, As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the
country, DAR boasts 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United
States and internationally; any woman 18 years or older, regardless of
race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from
a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership; and

WHEREAS, The Fort Stanwix Chapter of the National Society Daughters
of the American Revolution was officially established on June 19, 1896;
at the time of the signing of the original charter, the youngest charter
member was 20 years of age and the oldest 96 years of age, a real
daughter of a Revolutionary War patriot; and

WHEREAS, Today, with a steadfast and unwavering commitment to its
community, Fort Stanwix Daughters participate in countless community and
DAR activities to promote education and patriotism, including
participation in observances of historic and patriotic events, flag
presentations to community organizations, Flag Day observances, and
local student recognition through DAR Good Citizens Awards, American
History Essay Contests, and Flag Essay Competition; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this vital organization presents Community
Service Awards to honor local volunteers, and partners with area
historical and genealogical organizations in research and preservation
initiatives; and

WHEREAS, Members of the Fort Stanwix Chapter of the National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution have recently began working on
cleaning the headstones of charter members interred at Rome Cemetery;
and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 125-year history, the Fort Stanwix
Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has
demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities which
it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Fort Stanwix Chapter of the National
Society Daughters of the American Revolution is in direct correlation to
the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Fort Stanwix
Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Fort Stanwix Chapter of the
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Fort Stanwix Chapter of the National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution.
