COMMENDING Dr. Myron and Joyce Glick upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the Empire State who have made
strong contributions to their communities and who inspire others through
their model citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Myron and Joyce Glick have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dr. Myron
and Joyce Glick upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, In the early 1990s, Dr. Myron and Joyce Glick moved to
Buffalo's West Side to attend medical school at the State University of
New York at Buffalo; and

WHEREAS, During his training, Myron Glick was shocked to observe
health disparities in Buffalo that rivaled those of the developing
world; and

WHEREAS, Myron Glick thought he was going to be a doctor and go to
another country where the need was essential but quickly realized there
was real need in Western New York; and

WHEREAS, After completing a three-year residency in Lancaster,
Pennsylvania, Myron and Joyce returned to Buffalo with a modest bank
loan to start Jericho Road Family Practice on the city's West Side; and

WHEREAS, Myron Glick worked as the sole medical provider at the
family practice during the day, while juggling three other part-time
medical jobs during the evenings and Joyce managed the new practice
office; and

WHEREAS, As Buffalo became a welcoming city for refugee resettlement
in the1990s and 2000s, Jericho Road began to see more and more refugee
and immigrant patients, while continuing to serve low-income patients of
all backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, Eventually, Jericho Road Ministries merged with Jericho's
family practice to become the Jericho Road Community Health Center which
provides high-quality medical care for the whole family, especially for

people with limited access to care such as families living in poverty,
refugees, and immigrants; and

WHEREAS, In 2020, nearly 88,000 visits provided care to more than
25,000 patients; and

WHEREAS, In addition to medical care, Jericho Road Community Health
Center has developed a wide array of community development programs,
seeking to address the needs of those they serve more holistically; the
Center engages a very diverse staff that aptly represents the
ethnicities they serve, forming a bridge of trust within Buffalo's
ethnic communities; and

WHEREAS, Last year, the programs provided support and education to
thousands of people; and

WHEREAS, Jericho Road Community Health Center's global health
outreach tangibly demonstrates the love of God by addressing health
disparities in the home countries of its refugee patients; and

WHEREAS, Started in 2015 in the Kono District of Sierra Leone, the
global health programs now operate at five sites in three countries; in
2020, Jericho Road's global health programs provided over 60,000 patient
visits, including 1,593 deliveries; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Dr. Myron and Joyce Glick
have displayed throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Myron and Joyce Glick upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Myron and Joyce Glick.
