MOURNING the death of Kevin S. Doyle, prominent
attorney, distinguished citizen and devoted member
of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Kevin S. Doyle was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Kevin S. Doyle, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Kevin S. Doyle of Buffalo, New York, passed away on
Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, Kevin S. Doyle was born on July 23, 1955, to Joan
(Whitehead) and Vincent E. Doyle Jr. in Buffalo where he attended St.
Mark's School and Nichols School; during this time, he became interested
in creative writing and served as the editor of the school's literary
magazine; and
WHEREAS, After graduating in 1973, Kevin S. Doyle enrolled in the
University of Iowa and continued to foster his love of writing with the
prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop; upon his return to Western New York,
he earned his bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics at the University
of Buffalo; for his senior project, he taught himself how to speak and
write the difficult language of the country of Wales, where his mother
was born; and
WHEREAS, Following in the footsteps of his father, who was a
successful attorney and well-respected judge, Kevin S. Doyle moved to
Washington, D.C. and worked for the House Select Committee on the
Assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.; later, he
served on the House Ways and Means Committee; and
WHEREAS, After several years in the nation's capital, Kevin S. Doyle
return to his beloved hometown and graduated from the University of
Buffalo Law School where he served as co-President of the Hibernian Law
Society; he began his distinguished law career with the private law firm
Damon & Morey before serving as an Assistant Corporation Counsel with
the City of Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Kevin S. Doyle discovered his true calling when he
joined the Mental Hygiene Legal Service, a state agency that advocates
and litigates on behalf of people who receive services for mental or
developmental disabilities; throughout his tenure, he met with clients
in various mental health facilities and appeared on their behalf in
court, truly making a difference in the lives of those who needed his
expertise most; in addition to this role, he gave presentations to
professional groups on effective legal writing, before retiring in 2016;
and
WHEREAS, Kevin S. Doyle was a man of many interests and passions; he
was an avid fisherman, an amateur genealogist, a music and film buff, a
lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, and a longtime
coach for youth baseball, softball, and basketball leagues in Shoshone
Park; above all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Kevin S. Doyle is survived by
his wife of 15 years, the former Mary Etta Scaglione; two daughters,
Emily and Anna; two sons, Eamon and Owen; his mother, Joan Whitehead
Doyle; one sister, Megan Battaglia; and two brothers, Brian and Vincent
III, as well as numerous friends, colleagues and clients who will long
cherish his memory; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and advocate for those with
disabilities, Kevin S. Doyle's name is synonymous with character,
dignity, intellect, depth, and humor, qualities evident to his family
and to all those who were fortunate enough to have known him; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Kevin S. Doyle, prominent attorney, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Kevin S. Doyle.
