HONORING Anna Swalgin upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2021 Oneida County
Older American Award by the Oneida County Department
of Family and Community Services Office for the
Aging
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anna Swalgin
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2021 Oneida
County Older American Award by the Oneida County Department of Family
and Community Services Office for the Aging to be celebrated on Friday,
November 5, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, An active role model in her community of Sherrill, New
York, Anna Swalgin is truly a woman of great faith, regularly attending
the Plymouth Alliance Church, where she is involved in Bible studies and
assists with teaching young children; and
WHEREAS, Anna Swalgin is known throughout her local community as an
angel for the countless generous acts of kindness she performs for her
beloved neighbors at Noyes Manor Apartments where she resides; every
holiday and every birthday this devoted woman provides cards and warm
cheer to all 80 plus residents; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she can often be found baking treats to share
with her neighbors or maintain the birthday board she created near the
community leasing office to ensure all residents' special days are
celebrated; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman is also a talented decorator and
skillfully creates center pieces for the community room tables for all
to enjoy, making sure to change the theme depending on the holiday and
season; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Anna Swalgin graciously
offered to care for the dog of one of her neighbors who fell ill; she
eventually became the dog's loving owner; this huge act of love,
kindness and sacrifice is a true testament to her incredible character;
and
WHEREAS, Prior to retirement, Anna Swalgin was employed in an
extremely noble profession, working for Madison Cortland ARC where she
enjoyed a fulfilling career and was a blessing to many lives; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Anna Swalgin has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Anna Swalgin, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of her family and friends through her
love and respect for others, generously sharing the wisdom gained over
years of experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anna Swalgin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2021 Oneida County Older American Award, and to wish her continued
success in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anna Swalgin.
