COMMENDING Class of 2022 Valedictorian Vivian Zhu
and Salutatorian Malik Hyman of Elmont Memorial High
School, in recognition of their outstanding
accomplishments

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the youth of today, the
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Class of
2022 Valedictorian Vivian Zhu and Salutatorian Malik Hyman of Elmont
Memorial High School, in recognition of their outstanding
accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Valedictorian Vivian Zhu and Salutatorian Malik Hyman
represent the best of developed potential inherent in our most precious
resource, our youth; their achievements have brought enduring honor to
their families and communities and should be recognized and saluted; and

WHEREAS, Vivian Zhu is lauded as an outstanding student who
recognizes the importance of a strong work ethic, persistence and
intellectual integrity; and

WHEREAS, This year, she was named an AP Scholar with Distinction and
a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program due to her
impressive test scores; and

WHEREAS, As an active member in her school community, Vivian Zhu
dedicates her time to Key Club, Class of 2022 Club and National Honor
Society; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Vivian Zhu is part of the school's Science
Research program, mentoring younger students on STEM topics and running
a weekly science segment on the school's daily announcement broadcast to
produce and distribute scientific knowledge; and

WHEREAS, Outside of school, Vivian Zhu has volunteered at local food
pantries, tutored numerous students at Elmont and works at her parents'
restaurant; and

WHEREAS, Malik Hyman's academic curiosity and work ethic are praised
by those who know him at Elmont Memorial High School; and

WHEREAS, His academic achievements are apparent, as he has completed
seven Advanced Placement classes and his test performance led him to
being designated as an AP Scholar with Distinction; and

WHEREAS, Along with being enrolled in AP classes, Malik Hyman is in
the upper-level Anatomy and Physiology class; and

WHEREAS, Moreover, Malik Hyman has been an active participant in
Science Research and is currently in his fourth year of the program;

through the program, he has studied various health-related topics while
doing extensive work on cancer research; and

WHEREAS, Malik Hyman has an interest in working in the medical field
one day; and

WHEREAS, Valedictorian Vivian Zhu and Salutatorian Malik Hyman may
now stand with pride as they assess their achievements, experience the
satisfaction of their labors and the joy of their accomplishments, eager
to face the new experiences of a challenging world; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Class of 2022 Valedictorian Vivian Zhu and Salutatorian Malik
Hyman of Elmont Memorial High School, in recognition of their
outstanding accomplishments; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Valedictorian Vivian Zhu and Salutatorian Malik Hyman.
