COMMENDING past Fire Chief David Jacobowitz upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 50 years of dedicated service to
the Whitesboro Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout
the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the
arduous field of fire protection and prevention; and

WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend past Fire Chief
David Jacobowitz upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition after 50 years of dedicated service to the Whitesboro Fire
Department to be celebrated at its Annual Installation Banquet, on
Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the Hart's Hill Inn in Whitesboro, New
York; and

WHEREAS, David Jacobowitz joined the Whitesboro Fire Department in
November of 1971; he started his training by first going through
Essentials, then Initial Fire Attack, followed by Pump Operations and
Truck Company Operations; and

WHEREAS, He served as Company Officer and Hazmat 1 and 2; he was
also a member of the Cause and Origin Determination Team; and

WHEREAS, David Jacobowitz held numerous positions and was promoted
several times; while serving as a training officer, he held the position
of Captain from 1974 until 1976; from 1977-1978, he was 2nd Assistant
before moving up to 1st Assistant Chief in 1979 for one year; and

WHEREAS, In 1981, David Jacobowitz was promoted to the esteemed
title of Chief of the Whitesboro Fire Department, the position he held
for 20 illustrious years; and

WHEREAS, Past Chief David Jacobowitz was President of the Oneida
County Fire Chiefs, Chairman of the Oneida County Fire Advisory Board,
President of the New York State Fire Chiefs Association, and was a
member of the Oneida County Firemen's Association; he also held the
position of President of the Firemen's Association of the State of New
York (FASNY) from 2010 until 2012; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only
provide the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other
activities of great benefit and importance to the communities they
serve; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
David Jacobowitz is one such firefighter; throughout 50 years of devoted

service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend past Fire Chief David Jacobowitz upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after 50 years of dedicated service
to the Whitesboro Fire Department; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to past Fire Chief David Jacobowitz.
