COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of The Gospel
Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic), Inc.
of Brooklyn, New York

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Gospel Tabernacle Church of
Jesus Christ (Apostolic), Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, to be celebrated
with a special recognition service on Sunday, February 13, 2022; and

WHEREAS, The Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ of Brooklyn,
New York was founded on February 10, 1972, by the late Bishop Samuel
Green II, who had a great passion for helping anyone in need; and

WHEREAS, In the 1970s the church was able to spread the gospel and
established a strong Sunday School which served many families; and

WHEREAS, As a reflection of the determination of the church, The
Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ expanded to include branches in
Queens, New York, as well as in Boston and Springfield, Massachusetts;
and

WHEREAS, The Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ was successful
in recruiting many immigrant parishioners in effort to show all the
United States could offer and to create a way for countless families to
escape poverty; and

WHEREAS, In the late 1980s, the Bishop formed a fellowship to spread
the gospel and help people in many different countries including
Jamaica, Antigua, St. Lucia, Dominica, England, and Canada; and

WHEREAS, In the spirit of true selflessness, The Gospel Tabernacle
Church of Jesus Christ has provided countless services to the local
community, such as adopting the Caton Avenue Nursing Home as well as
local shelters, providing hot meals on Thanksgiving; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, this vital institution has provided General
Education Development (GED) classes, hosted Vacation Bible School and
health fairs, supported the advancement of young persons through
awarding scholarships, distributed personal protective equipment through
the pandemic to those in need, and hosted clothing drives; and

WHEREAS, Today, The Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ stands
on the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the

coming decades, while retaining that spiritual resolve which has so
characterized its glorious past; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Gospel Tabernacle Church of
Jesus Christ (Apostolic), Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, confident that
this commemoration reflects the belief in those values which enhance the
dignity and purpose of life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic),
Inc.
