Senate Resolution No. 1736

MOURNING the death of Bob Pickett, beloved radio
personality, former judge, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Bob Pickett was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Bob Pickett, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Bob Pickett was one of the original hosts of the WBLS
public affairs program "Open Line" along with the late Bob Slade and
James Mtume; he also served as Executive Producer and Producer of The
Legend Music Series for KISS-FM, as well as Producer for KISS-FM's Soul
Beginnings music series which won the NY Metro A.I.R. Award for Best
Evening Show in 1997; and
WHEREAS, An Attorney at Law for 33 years, Bob Pickett had vast
experience in complex litigation, both civil and criminal; he was also a
former Judge in the Administrative Courts of New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Bob Pickett was the proud recipient of numerous awards and
accolades, including the Garden State Association of Black Journalists
Award for the Best Syndicated Show, "Visions of Black America," as
Producer and Writer for the series; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was bestowed with the 1998 and 2002 New
York Metro A.I.R. Award for the Best Public Affairs Program for the
"Open Line" show; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Bob Pickett was Chairman and
Organizing Founding Member of Black United Fund of New Jersey, now known
as the African American Fund of New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Bob Pickett earned a Juris Doctorate degree in 1972 from
The University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he
served as National Chairman of the National Black American Law Students
Association; and
WHEREAS, Bob Pickett's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Bob Pickett leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Bob Pickett, and to express its deepest condolences
to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Bob Pickett.
