CONGRATULATING Tom Precious upon the occasion of
his retirement after 25 years of distinguished
service as Albany Bureau Chief for The Buffalo News

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalists who have diligently and consistently, year
after year, recorded the history of their communities and brought local
news and news across the globe to their readers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Tom Precious upon the occasion of his retirement as Albany
Bureau Chief for The Buffalo News; on Sunday, January 23, 2022, he
officially retired from this esteemed position after 25 years of
chronicling the Capitol in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Renowned as Albany's most respected reporter, Tom Precious
began his illustrious career, when he relocated to the Capital Region of
New York, from Washington, D.C. after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Journalism and Political Science from George Washington University;
and

WHEREAS, From The News cubby hole on the famous "shelf" of the
Capitol's out-of-"The Front Page" press room, Tom Precious has gained
the respect of politicians and reporters, alike, for his ability to bore
into budget books, develop trusted sources and set the agenda for
Western New York coverage; and

WHEREAS, Tom Precious' deeply sourced copy on all manner of issues
astounds his colleagues, and his articles are widely regarded as a
must-read for anyone serious about following state politics;
furthermore, he appreciates the history of the Capitol building and its
importance in the lives of New Yorkers, and knows every one of its
secret nooks and crannies; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his stellar career which traversed more than
three decades, Tom Precious served his readers with intelligence and
caring dedication, continuously striving to effectively fulfill the
duties of his position; and

WHEREAS, Tom Precious diligently worked to hold politicians and
elected officials accountable and through his steadfast work ethic,
reported on numerous important stories which have truly made an
indelible impact on the residents of Buffalo, Western New York, and all
of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with
whom he worked, Tom Precious will be remembered for his honesty,
integrity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of
human problems in his official acts; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and

sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Tom Precious upon the occasion of his retirement after 25
years of distinguished service as Albany Bureau Chief for The Buffalo
News; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tom Precious.
