HONORING Gregg Howells upon the occasion of his
retirement after more than 25 years of distinguished
service as Executive Director of the YMCA of Rye,
New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gregg Howells upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 25
years of distinguished service as Executive Director of the YMCA of Rye,
New York; and

WHEREAS, After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation
from the State University of New York at Cortland, Gregg Howells went on
to receive a Master's degree in Education from Alfred University; and

WHEREAS, In 1986, Gregg Howells began his illustrious career as
Executive Director of the Old Colony YMCA in Massachusetts, where he
oversaw the Brockton, Middleboro and Taunton divisions until 1996, when
he became Executive Director of the YMCA of Rye, New York, the esteemed
position from which he will officially retire on June 3, 2022; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Executive Director of the Rye YMCA,
Gregg Howells greatly contributed to making his community a safer and
better place to live, work and raise a family; he has grown school
gardens, fought chronic disease and hunger, provided child care, and
supported countless youth, seniors and families; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Gregg Howells served the Rye YMCA
with intelligence and caring dedication, continuously striving to
effectively fulfill the duties of his position; and

WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with
whom he worked, Gregg Howells will be remembered for his honesty,
integrity, keen sense of duty and ability to foster a community of
growth and giving; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Rye YMCA is in direct correlation to the
efforts of Executive Director Gregg Howells, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Gregg Howells has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gregg Howells upon the occasion of his retirement, and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gregg Howells.
