MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
April 19-23, 2021, as Public School Volunteer Week
in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to their
public schools; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 19-23, 2021, as
Public School Volunteer Week in the State of New York, in conjunction
with the observance of National Public School Volunteer Week; and

WHEREAS, During this week, Project AppleSeed, the national campaign
for public school improvement, will be celebrating its 25th annual event
recognizing the substantial role school volunteers play in the success
of our school; these volunteers truly help the school by nurturing
students and assisting its teachers and employees; and

WHEREAS, Parent and community involvement is a significant factor in
the success of school; volunteerism is an essential element of all
societies, providing a way in which the human values of community,
caring and serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, School volunteers assist teachers and staff with the
day-to-day activities involved in providing a balanced education for our
students and are an important part of a team which strives to ensure
each and every one of our students succeeds; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the school year, numerous school volunteers
spend countless hours serving schools throughout the State of New York
as chaperones, mentors, after-school tutors, club leaders, booster club
members, PTA and PTO members, guest speakers, classroom helpers,
athletic coaches, and so much more; and

WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and

WHEREAS, When schools and families work together to support
learning, everyone benefits; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 19-23, 2021, as
Public School Volunteer Week in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
