HONORING Lakeside Coffee upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2022 Small Business
of the Year Award by the North Country Chamber of
Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses that contribute
substantially to the economic vitality of their communities, thereby
enhancing the economic well-being of the entire Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lakeside Coffee upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2022 Small Business of the Year Award by the North Country Chamber of
Commerce, which was celebrated at its 110th Annual Awards Dinner on
Friday, March 4, 2022, at the West Side Ballroom in Plattsburgh, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Lakeside Coffee is receiving this prestigious award for its
steadfast and unremitting commitment to its Rouses Point, New York, and
Northern Tier communities; and

WHEREAS, Owned by Norm and Sonya Lague, Lakeside Coffee is located
on Lake Street, one of the main roads in Rouses Point, New York; the
couple's two children, Peyton and Kayla are learning the coffee business
and help their parents at the cafe; and

WHEREAS, A self-taught roaster, one of Norm Lague's original,
locally-made products are 60/30/10, a blend that brings together three
different beans in what is described as medium body with rich taste and
citrus-like acidity with notes of caramel and chocolate; and

WHEREAS, A vital part of its community, which wholeheartedly
supported it through the COVID-19 pandemic, Lakeside Coffee has returned
the favor in numerous ways such as hosting blood drives and hat and
mitten giveaways, bringing in local children to make Valentine's Day
cards for senior citizens or taking donations for the local food shelf;
and

WHEREAS, A few years ago, Norm and Sonya Lague bought a small park
across the street from their cafe on Lake Street which serves as a stop
for cyclists and allows the couple to host various events, such as an
artisan market; and

WHEREAS, Due to the pandemic, Lakeside Coffee has seen a different
mixture of clientele, and in 2021, its wholesale side saw huge gains and
will be expanded exponentially; and

WHEREAS, The remarkable success of Lakeside Coffee is due in large
part to its owners and their staff, whose warmth and hospitality are
easily recognized by their loyal patrons; this dynamic couple is
well-versed in customer service and truly makes everyone who walks
through their door feel like family; and


WHEREAS, Since its inception, Lakeside Coffee has stood as a beloved
establishment which has provided a friendly, open environment for
patrons to collectively gather and share their thoughts, ideas and life
experiences; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lakeside Coffee upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2022 Small Business of the Year Award by the North Country
Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Norm and Sonya Lague, Owners, Lakeside Coffee.
