CONGRATULATING the Pierson High School Boys
Varsity Basketball Team upon the occasion of
capturing the Long Island Basketball Class C
Championship on March 9, 2022

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Pierson High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team of Sag Harbor, New
York, upon the occasion of capturing the Long Island Basketball Class C
Championship; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the
Whalers defeated Carle Place High School in a thrilling 55-51 victory to
capture Pierson's first Long Island boys basketball title since 1978, on
Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Centereach High School; and

WHEREAS, Pierson High School then defeated number one ranked
Alexander Hamilton High School in a thrilling come from behind 65-63
victory in the Class C Regional Finals on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at
Yorktown High School; with this monumental win, the Whalers qualified
for the NYSPHSAA Basketball Class C Championship at the Cool Insuring
Arena in Glens Falls, New York; and

WHEREAS, After an impressive and hard-fought semi-final round, the
Pierson Whalers were narrowly defeated by the Newfield Trojans; and

WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of scarlet and black,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Whalers throughout their journey as they ended their
season with an impressive overall record; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as basketball, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach William Fujita and Assistant
Coach Kevin O'Halloran have worked hard to hone the skills of this
championship team, teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which
will prove invaluable both on and off the court; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach William Fujita and all of the outstanding
athletes on the Pierson High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team have
clearly utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a
lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
their school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Pierson High School Boys Varsity
Basketball Team: Brendan Burke, Dominick Mancino, Keanu King, Logan
Hartstein, Daniel Labrozzi, Brandan Winenga, Fritz Desir, Leo Butler,
Cecil Munshin, Wilson Bennett, Pierre DuPlessis, Charlie Culver, Aven
Smith, Charlie McLean, and Paul Roesel; Head Coach William Fujita and
Assistant Coach Kevin O'Halloran on their outstanding season and overall
team record; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Pierson High School Boys Varsity
Basketball Team, Head Coach William Fujita and Assistant Coach Kevin
O'Halloran.
