HONORING Ronald C. Barry upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Lake
Delta Kiwanis Club on May 18, 2022

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ronald C.
Barry upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Lake Delta Kiwanis Club to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 18, 2022,
at Delta Lake Inn, Rome, New York; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Rome, New York alongside his two
brothers, Ronald C. Barry graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1964; and

WHEREAS, Drafted into the United States Army on December 9, 1965,
Robert C. Barry completed Basic and A/T training at Fort Dix in New
Jersey; and

WHEREAS, In July of 1966, this brave soldier arrived in Vung Tau
Vietnam as a Company Clerk with the 611th Transportation Company Direct
Support Helicopter Unit before being transferred to Vin Long Mekong
Delta where mortars were routinely shot onto the small base; and

WHEREAS, In 1967, Ronald C. Barry returned to the United States and
was assigned to the 80th Ordinance Company at Fort Lewis in Washington;
he was officially discharged from Active Duty Service on December 8,
1967, at the esteemed rank of Specialist 5, Personnel Specialist; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous and dedicated service to his country,
Ronald C. Barry was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service
Medal and Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, Ronald C. Barry began his illustrious career in public
service with the State of New York in 1969; during this time, he was
raising his young family in Utica, New York, while attending Utica
College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972,
before earning a Master of Science degree in Psychology from the
University at Albany; and

WHEREAS, After a career in State service which traversed more than
three decades, Ronald C. Barry retired in 2001; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Rome, New York, Ronald C. Barry joined the
Rome VFW in January of 1968 and became a Life Member in 1982; he has
served this vital organization in several capacities, including as
Trustee, Junior Vice Commander, and Commander for four consecutive years
(2017-2021); he currently serves as Senior Vice Commander and on the
Color Guard; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, while serving in these leadership positions,
he reorganized and remodeled the Post and updated its policies; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his fellow
veterans, Ronald C. Barry has also served on the Board of the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Ronald C. Barry demonstrates his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of this State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ronald C. Barry upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Lake Delta Kiwanis Club; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ronald C. Barry.
