MOURNING the death of Adolphus Alexander Young,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Adolphus Alexander Young, affectionately known as Alex,
passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the age of 93; and

WHEREAS, Born on August 4, 1928, in St. Catherine's Parish, Jamaica
West Indies, Adolphus Alexander Young worked hard on his parent's farm,
before moving to Kingston for more work opportunities; and

WHEREAS, There he met and eventually married his wife of 56 years,
the former Monica Eugene McClune on November 25, 1959, and together,
along with Monica's first daughter Helena, they went on to raise six
wonderful children together; and

WHEREAS, After working for several years as the Grounds Maintenance
Supervisor at the University Hospital of the West Indies, Adolphus
Alexander Young joined his wife in New York on December 22, 1976; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Adolphus Alexander Young was a devout
worshipper of God, having first fellowshipped at Escarpment Church of
God in St. Andrews Jamaica, then worshipping at Lexington Church of God
and the East Flatbush Church of God, before finally settling in as a
member of the Rhema Church of God; and

WHEREAS, A deeply humble person, Adolphus Alexander Young also
exemplified what it meant to be kind, and everyone who he came in
contact with benefited from his generosity of spirit and love; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Adolphus Alexander Young
took great pride in his neighborhood and enjoyed purchasing gifts for
others and partaking in dinners to celebrate their successes; and

WHEREAS, Adolphus Alexander Young is survived by his seven children,
Helena, Michael, Pauline, Errol, Olivene, Pamela and Wilfred; 21
grandchildren, Jeome, Mellicia, Christopher, Dwight, Nickeema, William,
Lauren, Karissa, Jahsent, Shayna, Ameer, Markel, David, Amia, Elizabeth,
Rolanda, Cashmere, Abraham, Kiara, Japhhel, Christopher; and nine
great-grandchildren, Kayla, Charles, Colette, Christian, Brooklyn,
Tatum, Darius, Nala, and Elianna; as well as many more relatives and
friends; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Adolphus Alexander Young leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all those who had the privilege of knowing him; he will be deeply

missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Adolphus Alexander Young, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Adolphus Alexander Young.
