COMMENDING Martha Holmes upon the occasion of
being named Volunteer of the Year by Mercy Care of
the Adirondacks
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Martha Holmes upon the occasion of being named Volunteer of the
Year by Mercy Care of the Adirondacks; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award goes to the volunteer who has served
for two or more years, has given outstanding services and exemplifies
the values of Mercy Care; Martha Holmes is truly deserving of this
honor; and
WHEREAS, To show their deep appreciation, Mercy Care of the
Adirondacks will present this kind and compassionate woman with the
Catherine McAuley medallion; and
WHEREAS, In 1831, the Sisters of Mercy was founded by Catherine
McAuley in Ireland; today, this vital organization remains true to its
mission, working to help eliminate poverty, the widespread denial of
human rights, the degradation of earth, the increase in violence and
racism, the continued oppression of women, the abuse of children, the
mistreatment of immigrants and the lack of solidarity among people and
nations; and
WHEREAS, Martha Holmes truly enjoys helping the residents of her
Tupper Lake community, especially the elderly; she happily gives of her
time, energies, and love assisting her Elder Friend, whether it be a
ride to an appointment or housework; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Martha Holmes upon the occasion of being named Volunteer of the
Year by Mercy Care of the Adirondacks; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Martha Holmes.
