COMMEMORATING the 115th Anniversary of Engelbert's
Jewelers, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 115th Anniversary of Engelbert's Jewelers, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, For 115 years, Engelbert's Jewelers has stayed true to its
mantra, "Fine Jewelry at Right Prices"; this trusted jeweler has
continually strived to ensure each and every one of their customers is
treated to their personal and professional expertise; and

WHEREAS, M.J. Engelbert & Co. was established when Martin J.
Engelbert purchased the Singleton Jewelry store at 104 W. Dominick
Street in Downtown Rome, New York, on October 4, 1907; shortly
thereafter, his brother, Adolph joined the business; and

WHEREAS, In 1931, Clarence M. Engelbert joined his father's firm and
in 1959, his son Bruce entered the business; six years later, Bruce's
brother David joined in the family-run enterprise; in 1967, the store
became incorporated, and the name changed to Engelbert's Jewelers, Inc.;
and

WHEREAS, In 1974, the Engelbert family expanded the business and
opened a store in the Riverside Mall in Utica, New York; in November of
1987, it moved to its current location in the New Hartford Shopping
Center; and

WHEREAS, Today, David Engelbert's daughter Sarah is the fourth
generation to run the successful jewelry business; she was the first in
her family to earn a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological
Institute of America (GIA); and

WHEREAS, For the last 25 years, Engelbert's Jewelers has belonged to
the Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO) which only accepts jewelers
with the highest ethical standards and superior professional integrity;
it is also a IJO certified gem lab because of their consistency of
delivering quality gems and jewelry to their customers; and

WHEREAS, Engelbert's Jewelers has specialized in "Ideal Cut"
diamonds and have traveled from Antwerp, Belgium to Johannesburg, South
Africa to offer their customers the best diamonds available; their
jewelry and gift collection has been personally chosen so that they can
offer the best quality, style and value; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to

enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 115th Anniversary of Engelbert's Jewelers, Inc.; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sarah Engelbert Rushton, Owner, Engelbert's Jewelers,
Inc.
