MOURNING the death of Doris Seidlitz,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her
community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Doris Seidlitz was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Doris Seidlitz, noting the
significance of her purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Doris Seidlitz, a longtime resident of Pound Ridge, New
York, who was active in local real estate for more than 40 years, died
on October 3, 2021, at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, Born in New York City on October 13, 1926 to Isidore and
Augusta Rafkin, Doris Seidlitz had two siblings, Elaine and Lewis; she
grew up in the Five Towns on Long Island and attended Goucher College;
and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Doris Seidlitz moved to
Manhattan where she completed the Bloomingdale's training program before
working in fashion retail; she met her future husband, Richard, in 1955
and the couple was married in 1957; and
WHEREAS, After moving to Pound Ridge with her husband and their
three children in 1969, Doris Seidlitz quickly made a name for herself
in local real estate, working first for Bixler and Co. and then Houlihan
Lawrence; this extraordinary woman continued to work into her 90s,
selling her last house only months before her death; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Doris Seidlitz gave tirelessly of her time and energies as a
board member of the Mount Kisco Child Care Center where she cared deeply
for all the children, families, staff and fellow board members; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she was an early volunteer at the Katonah
Museum of Art where she created a travel program which took gallery
members around the world to visit museums and other cultural landmarks;
and
WHEREAS, In her later years, Doris Seidlitz could be found walking
her dog in the Pound Ridge Reservation or holding court at any one of a
number of local businesses where she had developed long-running
friendships; and
WHEREAS, Renowned for her integrity, enthusiasm and quick wit, Doris
Seidlitz had a strong hug, incredibly warm heart, was an amazing
storyteller, and had the unique ability to make whoever she was talking
to feel like they were the most important person in the room; and
WHEREAS, Doris Seidlitz is survived by her husband, Richard; and her
three children, Jane, Anne and Richard Jr., as well as two
grandchildren; her infinite selflessness and benevolence will shine on
through her family's vivid and happy memories; her insight and strength
will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the countless
lives she touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Doris Seidlitz leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing woman; she will
be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Doris Seidlitz, and to express its deepest
condolences to her family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Doris Seidlitz.
