MOURNING the death of Richard E. Riegel,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Richard E. Riegel of Hawthorne, New York, died on Friday,
November 26, 2021, at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Westlake High School in 1978, Richard
E. Riegel received a bachelor's degree from Villanova University, and
later, a master's degree in public administration from Pace University
in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Richard E. Riegel distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, He became a New York City Police Officer on January 26th,
1982, serving in the Warrant Squad and the Office of the Chief of
Detectives for more than two decades until his retirement on October 4,
2003; and
WHEREAS, During his time with the NYPD, Richard E. Riegel also
enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve, serving 14 years as an
Intelligence Specialist from 1991 to 2005; and
WHEREAS, Richard E. Riegel's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Richard E. Riegel is survived by his sister, Dawn O'Conner;
brother-in-law, Thomas; three nieces, Dawn, Bernadette, and Tara; a
nephew, Shane; and his grandniece, Ella Ann Quinn; as well as his aunts,
Nora Riegel and Harriet Schneider; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Richard E. Riegel leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Richard E. Riegel, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Richard E. Riegel.
