COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of Congregation
Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in New York State is
greatly enriched by its religious institutions and the faithful and
generous service of those who devote themselves to endeavors of family,
faith, and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of such magnanimous conduct and bearing which
demonstrate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra
Shas, to be celebrated at a gala event on Sunday, June 12, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas (CBS-CS) is a
conservative Jewish congregation located in the Town of DeWitt, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In 1962, Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas was founded
by 12 families who joined together to create a lay-led, participatory
Jewish Congregation; and
WHEREAS, The early families met in one another's homes and in
borrowed spaces until they were able to purchase land on Patsy Lane in
DeWitt, where they constructed their current synagogue building; and
WHEREAS, Those original 12 families grew over time to CBS-CS's
current membership of approximately 300 households; and
WHEREAS, CBS-CS established a religious school, in which hundreds of
its children have been educated and became Bar or Bat Mitvah; and
WHEREAS, CBS-CS is an inclusive egalitarian congregation which
promotes Jewish values, and encourages the religious, educational and
social growth of all of its members; and
WHEREAS, CBS-CS has been ably led by six rabbis over its history,
and is currently led by Rabbi David Kunin; and
WHEREAS, The Town of DeWitt, in which the Congregation makes its
home, prides itself on being a town where all people can live, work and
worship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra
Shas, and to wish it a hearty "Mazel Tov"; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rabbi David Kunin, Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas.
