MOURNING the death of Dr. Ahmed Jaber,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Dr. Ahmed Jaber, an extraordinary man of
indomitable faith and dedication whose purposeful life will long serve
as a standard of which others might aspire; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ahmed Jaber, of Bay Ridge, New York, died on Thursday,
December 10, 2020, at the age of 73; and

WHEREAS, Born on June 5, 1947, in a small village in Palestine
called Yamoun, Ahmed Jaber was the fourth child in his family, with two
older brothers, one older sister, and one younger sister; and

WHEREAS, He immigrated to the United States in 1974, and began his
medical residency at Lutheran Medical Center, where he was affiliated
his entire career; and

WHEREAS, After becoming a board-certified OB-GYN, Dr. Ahmed Jaber
personally delivered 5,000 babies; he started a private practice on 5th
Avenue in Bay Ridge, where he became a mainstay for the community; and

WHEREAS, In 1975, Dr. Ahmed Jaber founded the National Arab-American
Medical Association through which he was able to establish a prayer room
at the hospital at which he served; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ahmed Jaber's dedication to serving his community
expanded in 2001 when he, along with other community leaders, founded
the Arab-American Association of New York, a nonprofit and advocacy
organization which serves more than 10,000 people a year; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ahmed Jaber also helped many newly arriving immigrants
from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Yemen and elsewhere; and

WHEREAS, Above all, Dr. Ahmed Jaber was known for his generosity and
his reputation as a bridge-builder; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ahmed Jaber is survived by his wife, Najah; and his six
children, Reem, Ramee, Ranee, Omar, Waseem, and Faris; as well as his
nine grandchildren, Deen, Hana, Zayn, Faisal, Leena, Elijah, Noah, Iris,
and Eisa; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dr. Ahmed Jaber leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pauses in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dr. Ahmed Jaber, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dr. Ahmed Jaber.
