COMMENDING Henry E. Dodge posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Henry E.
Dodge posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Born on April 10, 1928, in Schenectady, New York, Henry E.
Dodge, affectionately known as Hank, was the son of the late John and
Edna (Lansing) Dodge; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Schenectady County, Henry E. Dodge
was a graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School; he worked at Scotia
Lanes as a pinsetter and later attended Union College; and

WHEREAS, Henry E. Dodge proudly served his country during World War
II under General MacArthur's command in Japan, where he was part of
Civil Intelligence; furthermore, he was responsible for establishing the
first bowling alleys in Japan; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the Second World War,
Henry E. Dodge was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army
of Occupation Medal; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Henry E. Dodge
wed the love of his life, Joan Engle, whom he was married to for 66
wonderful years before her death on March 4, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Henry E. Dodge worked for many years at H.S. Barney Company
as treasurer and later the Carl Company as credit manager; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Henry E. Dodge was a member, past Vice President and Hickson
Award winner of the Schenectady Kiwanis Club; he was a member of the
Bellevue Reformed Church Choir for many years before transferring to the
First Reformed Church of Scotia when he moved to Glenville; and

WHEREAS, An avid bowler, Henry E. Dodge was a member of the
Schenectady Bowling Association's Hall of Fame; his proudest achievement

was not his three 300 hundred games, but the fact that he missed only
two nights in 50 years of bowling; and

WHEREAS, When he wasn't bowling, Henry E. Dodge also enjoyed playing
golf; he has the distinction of being one of the areas only players to
record a hole-in-one both as a right-handed and left-handed player; and

WHEREAS, Henry E. Dodge loved watching baseball; if it wasn't his
beloved Yankees, you could find him and his wife at the baseball fields
of Collins Park in Scotia; above all, however, he enjoyed the time he
was able to spend with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Henry E. Dodge died on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the age
of 92; he will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to have known
and loved such an amazing man; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his parents and his wife, Henry E. Dodge was
predeceased by his brother, John (Anna) and his two sisters Ruth (Al)
and Electa (William); he is survived by his two daughters, Stefanie (the
late Michael) and Amy (Tracy); four grandchildren, Christopher
(Jennifer), Jill (Christopher), Tyler and Jordan; a great-grandson,
Silas; and several nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Henry E. Dodge demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Henry E. Dodge posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Henry E. Dodge.
