CONGRATULATING Vito J. Sciortino Jr. upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than 31 years
of distinguished service to the Town of Marcy
Highway Department

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Vito J. Sciortino Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement
after more than 31 years of distinguished service to the Town of Marcy
Highway Department; and

WHEREAS, Vito J. Sciortino Jr. began his illustrious career with the
Town of Marcy Highway Department on November 22, 1989, during which time
he learned the winter operations of plowing and sanding local town and
county roads in the Town of Marcy, New York; and

WHEREAS, For a short time, Vito J. Sciortino Jr. worked for the
Sanitation Department, collecting residential and commercial waste from
town residents and businesses; and

WHEREAS, By July of 1993, Vito J. Sciortino Jr. was back full time
with the Highway Department where he spent many years doing highway
maintenance, construction and roadside mowing; and

WHEREAS, Vito J. Sciortino Jr. accepted an interim appointment to
Highway Superintendent to fill the vacancy left by then retiring highway
superintendent Patrick VanHatten on August 3, 2009; November of that
same year, he ran unopposed and was elected to a four-year term as
Superintendent beginning January 1, 2010, the esteemed position he held
until his retirement on December 30, 2020; and

WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Vito J. Sciortino Jr. rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Town of Marcy
Highway Department, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as the Town of Marcy Highway
Superintendent, Vito J. Sciortino Jr. served with loyalty, honor and
distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed
a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Terri, and their
three children, Jessica, Jason and Josh, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, In his well-deserved retirement, this extraordinary man
plans to continue to work on his family farm on Luke Road in Marcy,
where he raised his family; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vito J. Sciortino Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 31 years of distinguished service to the Town of Marcy Highway
Department, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Vito J. Sciortino Jr.
