CONGRATULATING Eric M. Kelley upon the occasion of
his retirement after more than 30 years of
distinguished service to Broome County
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Eric M. Kelley upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 30 years of distinguished service to Broome County; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; Eric M. Kelley
is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, An alumnus of Binghamton Central High School's Class of
1979, Eric M. Kelley went on to earn an AAS in Criminal Justice from
North Country Community College in 1982, and a Bachelor of Science
degree in Criminal Justice from Binghamton University in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, he graduated from the Broome County Law
Enforcement Academy in 1997, and has obtained several law enforcement
certifications and completed many seminars and trainings throughout his
career; and
WHEREAS, Prior to working in the District Attorney's Office, Eric M.
Kelley served as an Investigator with the Broome County Public
Defender's Office from 1987 to 1997, focusing on investigating felony
and misdemeanor crimes from a defense perspective; and
WHEREAS, Eric M. Kelley began his illustrious career as an
Investigator with the Broome County District Attorney's Office in 1997,
the esteemed position from which he retired in 2021; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Eric M. Kelley was involved in felony and
misdemeanor crimes, specifically in the interrogation of suspects and
interviewing witnesses, the gathering and management of evidence,
drafting and executing warrants, making arrests, and other law
enforcement related duties; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Eric M. Kelley has been a
dedicated and valuable asset to both the Broome County District
Attorney's Office and the Broome County Public Defender's Office; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work in County government, Eric M.
Kelley has served as an Adjunct Professor for SUNY Broome Community
College since 2006, where he taught Criminal Investigation, a lecture
and lab class instructing students on the basic principles of the
tactics, strategies, and techniques of criminal investigations; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Eric M. Kelley has served as a member of the New York State
Fraternal Order of Police, including terms as President and Sergeant at
Arms; he has also been a member of the Vestal Elks Lodge No. 2508 and
Sons of the American Legion, and previously volunteered with the Vestal
Junior Winter Guard and as an assistant coach for the Vestal Youth Girls
Softball League; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Patty, and their
two daughters Danielle and Erin, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Eric M. Kelley upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 30 years of distinguished service to Broome County, and to
wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Eric M. Kelley.
