HONORING Stephen Rogers posthumously upon the
occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Stephen
Rogers posthumously upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday which was
celebrated on Sunday, September 5, 2020, at Redeeming Love Fellowship in
Stittville, New York; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Rogers was born to Marie (Long) and George Harold
Rogers on September 4, 1920, in the Town of Western, New York; after
graduating from Holland Patent Central School in 1940, he went to work
for Revere Copper and Brass Inc., and then Holland Patent Farmers Co.;
and

WHEREAS, Stephen Rogers married the former Betty Marie Charles on
June 28, 1941, and together, they raised seven children, Stephen Jack
(Marilyn), Sandra (Eric), Debra, Tim (Rise), Ted (Diane), Denise
(Steven), and Todd (Mavis); later in life, he enjoyed spending time with
his 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, In 1943, Stephen Rogers enlisted in the United States Navy
and proudly served his country during World War II where he was
stationed in the United Kingdom and Germany; upon his discharge on
November 8, 1945, with the rank of Shipfitter Third Class, he served at
the Griffiss Air Force Base until his retirement in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Rogers, with his zest for life, inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Rogers enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who reached such a remarkable age and who witnessed and
celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Stephen Rogers posthumously upon the occasion of celebrating his
100th Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Stephen Rogers.
