Senate Resolution No. 502

MOURNING the untimely death of Michael J. Moore,
committed law enforcement officer, family man and
devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a courageous and hardworking police officer who dedicated his purposeful
life and career in faithful service to both his family and the residents
of New York State; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the passing of Michael J. Moore of Mahopac, New York, who died
unexpectedly on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at the age of 50; and

WHEREAS, Born on May 16, 1970, in Queens, New York, to John and Mary
(Desposito) Moore, Michael J. Moore married his best friend and the love
of his life, Janene Pelletier, on May 10, 1997, in Mahopac; together,
they were blessed with three wonderful children; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Moore began his career with the New York City
Department of Probation in 1997 as a probation officer and, in 1998, he
began working as a member of New York City's finest as a Police Officer;
and

WHEREAS, In September of 2003, Michael J. Moore left the N.Y.P.D. to
become a Patrolman for Hastings-On-Hudson Police Department and remained
there until his retirement in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Highly regarded and sincerely respected amongst his peers
and by those he served and protected throughout his illustrious career,
Michael J. Moore was well-versed in the law, well-spoken in all manners
of communication, and was a tough but fair police officer to all he
encountered; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Moore was forever dependable, loyal, and kind,
three extraordinary attributes that made him an amazing police officer;
and

WHEREAS, After he retired, Michael J. Moore joined the Putnam County
Sheriff's Department where he worked in the Special Patrol Division; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Moore's true joy in life was the time he spent
with his family and dogs; he was immensely proud of his three children,
all of whom were his light and his purpose; and

WHEREAS, To know Michael J. Moore was to love him and, if you did,
then you were one of the lucky ones; his calmness and laughter were
infectious; he was the friend everyone could count on; with one call, he
was always there to help; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, John Moore, Michael J. Moore is
survived by his wife, Janene; his three cherished children, Jenna, Ryan
and Jack; his beloved mother, Mary; two sisters, Michelle (Mike) May and

Jacquelyn Moore; mother/father-in-law, Jeanette and Fred Pelletier;
sister-in-law, Danielle (Brian) Wright; and his brother-in-law, David
Pelletier; as well as his nieces and nephews, Daniel, Jade, Jonathan,
Jeanna, Freddie, and Daniel; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Michael J. Moore leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the
grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Michael J. Moore, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Michael J. Moore.
