MOURNING the death of Dr. Michael R. Marfino,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend and recognize those esteemed individuals within the medical
community for their extraordinary and sustained contributions to the
progress of medicine and the improvement of life; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Dr. Michael R. Marfino, noting
the significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Marfino of Buffalo, New York, died on
Wednesday, March 18, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Marfino distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, A proud member of many dental organizations, Dr. Michael R.
Marfino served the American Dental Association and the Dental Society of
New York, as well as the Erie County Dental Society, where he assisted
on the Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was President of the State University of
New York General Alumni Association UB Dental Alumni Association in
1994; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Marfino was the proud recipient of many
awards and accolades throughout his illustrious career; he earned the
title of President of WNY Society of Periodontists, as well as President
of the Apollonian Dental Guild in 1991; just three years later, this
esteemed man became President of Erie County Dental Society; and
WHEREAS, In 2002, he received the prestigious Francis J. Stone
Distinguished Service Award from the Erie County Dental Society; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Marfino's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A prominent member of the community, Dr. Michael R. Marfino
was extremely charitable and performed countless works of kindness and
generosity; he helped many younger dentists start their practices, was
well-known for always being even-tempered, and most notably for being
everybody's friend; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his brother, Nicholas; Dr. Michael R.
Marfino is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara; his three
daughters, Susan (Thomas), Laurie (Joseph), and Jennifer (Phillip); and
his son, Michael (Jennifer); he was the proud papa of Jillian, Caroline,
Annabel and Natalie; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and
good friends; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Marfino's infinite selflessness and
benevolence will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories;
his insight and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light
and hope to the countless lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dr. Michael R. Marfino leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man;
he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dr. Michael R. Marfino, and expressing its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dr. Michael R. Marfino.
