MOURNING the death of Michael A. Fitzpatrick,
former longtime Erie County Legislator,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Michael A. Fitzpatrick of Angola, New York, died on Sunday,
March 21, 2021, at the age of 72; and

WHEREAS, Michael A. Fitzpatrick was the son of a policeman, the
nephew of a First Ward Democratic chairman, and a graduate of Bishop
Timon High School; and

WHEREAS, A longtime leader in union and political circles, Michael
A. Fitzpatrick was from South Buffalo and represented the 2nd
Legislative District from 1977-2001; and

WHEREAS, He was a legendary figure in Buffalo and national labor,
civic, and political circles; and

WHEREAS, As a county legislator and as a leader with the Ironworkers
union, Michael A. Fitzpatrick influenced development in Buffalo for more
than a generation and left fingerprints on dozens of downtown projects
that served as building blocks for what we see today; and

WHEREAS, Michael A. Fitzpatrick is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee
Garvin) Fitzpatrick; his five children, Nancy, Noelle (Michael) Colpoys,
Maureen Doyle, Michael and William (Kate) Fitzpatrick; and nine
grandchildren; as well as other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Michael A. Fitzpatrick leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Michael A. Fitzpatrick, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Michael A. Fitzpatrick.
