CONGRATULATING The Honorable Lawrence J. Montreuil
upon the occasion of his retirement after 20 years
of service to the Village of New Hyde Park, New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate The Honorable Lawrence J. Montreuil upon the occasion of
his retirement after 20 years of service to the Village of New Hyde
Park, New York; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence J. Montreuil began his long and distinguished
career with the Village of New Hyde Park when he was elected as a
Trustee in 2001; in March of 2013, he assumed the role of Deputy Mayor,
and four years later, he was elected to the esteemed title of Mayor, the
position from which he will officially retire on March 31, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Mayor Lawrence J. Montreuil strived
to make the Village a better place to live, work and play; he
accomplished this goal by successfully completing the Harley Davidson
project and the LIRR Third Track Project which eliminated three at grade
railroad crossings in New Hyde Park in a way that was contextually
sensitive and retains the suburban character of our village; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Mayor Lawrence J.
Montreuil the village board also implemented a comprehensive master plan
based on community engagement, facts and data; set in motion the steps
necessary to replace the 93-year-old DPW garage; and diligently worked
on various other infrastructure improvement projects while dealing with
damaging storms and a global pandemic; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his luminous work on the village board,
Mayor Lawrence J. Montreuil served on the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park
Board of Education for 10 years, holding the positions of Trustee, Vice
President and President; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as a public servant, Mayor Lawrence J.
Montreuil served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, In his official acts, Mayor Lawrence J. Montreuil was
governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate The Honorable Lawrence J. Montreuil upon the occasion of
his retirement after 20 years of service to the Village of New Hyde
Park, New York, and to wish him continued success in all his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Lawrence J. Montreuil.
