MOURNING the death of Mark Anthony Farina,
long-time firefighter, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Mark Anthony Farina, died on Monday, April 27, 2020, at the
age of 65; and

WHEREAS, Mark Anthony Farina was born to Elizabeth and Anthony
"Duke" Farina on December 15, 1954, in New Hyde Park, New York; at the
young age of 18, he joined Protection Engine Company No. 2 of the New
Hyde Park Fire Department, and quickly became an active member,
eventually holding the position of Captain; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his 46 years of service, Mark Anthony Farina
exhibited courage and bravery every day in the course of his duties, and
truly exemplified the power of human compassion and the strength of the
American spirit through actions of the most heroic magnitude; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his volunteer work with the Department, Mark
Anthony Farina was actively involved with many other community
organizations including the New Hyde Park Little League and Holy Spirit
Parish; and

WHEREAS, For 38 years, Mark Anthony Farina rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Incorporated Village of New
Hyde Park; in his capacity as highway foreman, he served with loyalty,
honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, In his much-deserved retirement, Mark Anthony Farina could
often be found on the beach and in his boat on the east end of Long
Island, and loved to spend time with his treasured grandchildren,
whether it was Monster Jam, dance recitals, or "Timmy-time"; and

WHEREAS, Mark Anthony Farina is survived by his wife of 42 years,
Deborah; three sons, James (Alyson), Matthew (Melissa), and Thomas
(Samantha); and six grandchildren, Kyle, Benjamin, Layla, Zachary,
Matthew and Timothy, as well as a legion of firefighters who will long
cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his meritorious life, Mark Anthony Farina
touched many through his kindness and commitment to service, and, as we
recall the loss of this great man, we memorialize his remarkable life
and the enormous impact he had on everyone with whom he came in contact;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of a

courageous firefighter who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Mark Anthony Farina, long-time firefighter,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Mark Anthony Farina.
