COMMENDING the Eastern Area Chapter of The Links,
Incorporated upon the occasion of hosting its 46th
Annual Virtual Conference Tour on April 16, 2021
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Eastern Area Chapter of The Links, Incorporated upon the
occasion of hosting its 46th Annual Virtual Conference Tour on Friday,
April 16, 2021, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET); and
WHEREAS, Participants of this auspicious occasion include Dr. Shauna
Tucker Sims, Eastern Area Director, The Links, Incorporated; Anna Maria
Bishop Harris, Chair, Eastern Area Arts Facet; Valerie A. Cooper, Museum
Liaison, Eastern Area Arts Facet founder, Picture That Consultants;
Colvin Grannum, Trustee and ACCE member The Met; Max Hollein, Marina
Kellen French Director, The Met; Denise Murrell, Associate Curator, 19th
and 20th Century Art, The Met; Terry A. Joyner, President, Westchester
County (NY) Chapter; Ginger McKnight-Chavers, Arts Facet Chair,
Westchester County (NY) Chapter; and Chef Alvin Clayton, owner, Alvin &
Friends in New Rochelle, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit
corporation, established in 1946; the membership consists of over 15,000
professional women of color in 288 chapters located in 42 states, the
District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United
Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, It is one of the nation's oldest and largest volunteer
service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to
enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of
African Americans and other persons of African ancestry; and
WHEREAS, Currently, the Eastern Area Chapter consists of 78 Chapters
stretching from Boston, Massachusetts, to Roanoke, Virginia, and also
including London, England; this vital organization is comprised of 4,000
dynamic women who live out their commitment to making a difference by
delivering transformational programming in our communities; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Eastern Area Chapter has stayed
true to its theme of "Embracing our Legacy, Cultivating our Future"
through active civic, social and cultural engagement while working to
shape a better more equitable future for the communities they touch; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Eastern Area Chapter of The Links, Incorporated upon the
occasion of hosting its 46th Annual Virtual Conference Tour on April 16,
2021; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Shauna Tucker Sims, Director, Eastern Area Chapter of
The Links, Incorporated.
