HONORING Barbara Stein upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Madison
Jewish Center of Brooklyn, New York, on May 9, 2021

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in New York State is
greatly enriched by its religious institutions and the faithful and
generous service of those who devote themselves to endeavors of family,
faith, and community; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions and individuals of such magnanimous conduct and
bearing who demonstrate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in
so doing, inspire others to do the same; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barbara Stein upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Madison Jewish Center of Brooklyn, New York, to be
recognized at its 90th Anniversary Journal Celebration on Sunday, May 9,
2021; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1931 and located in the heart of Brooklyn,
the Madison Jewish Center (MJC) has proudly served the Madison, Marine
Park, Sheepshead Bay and Midwood communities for nine decades; each year
at its Anniversary Journal Celebration, MJC proudly honors members such
as Barbara Stein in recognition of their enduring and outstanding
service to the synagogue; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Stein was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York,
where she learned through her experiences that a happy and full life
consists of family, faith, education and community; and

WHEREAS, Barbara and her husband, Barry, found a home in Marine
Park, and were impressed with Madison Jewish Center's vibrant and
welcoming Conservative Jewish community; their children Scott and
Allyson attended Hebrew School there; and

WHEREAS, A retired New York City school teacher, Barbara Stein is
steadfastly committed to giving back to the community; she
wholeheartedly believes in Tikkun Olam, a basic, timeless idea in Jewish
theology that human beings are responsible for completing God's creation
and improving the world, and encourages the next generation to do the
same; and

WHEREAS, A vital member of the MJC community, Barbara Stein has
served in many capacities over the years, including as President from
2017-2019, during which time she was instrumental in the increase in
Shabbat attendance and in the positivity, which was felt by all during
the Egalitarian Conservative services; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, under the able leadership of Barbara Stein,
there was a greater awareness of Madison within the Brooklyn community

due to new programming, signage and advertisements of events in the new
outdoor showcases; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Barbara Stein has been a past PA President
and has acted as the Annual Fashion Show Coordinator for more than a
decade; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Barbara Stein has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Barbara Stein, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Stein upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Madison Jewish Center of Brooklyn, New York; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Barbara Stein.
