HONORING Salamah Adjoua-Mullen upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Outstanding
Librarian Award by the New York Library Association
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Salamah Adjoua-Mullen upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Outstanding Librarian Award by the New York Library Association
to be celebrated at a Ceremony on Thursday, April 29, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Salamah Adjoua-Mullen is receiving this prestigious award
for her expertise, dedication and profound impact on the students at
Northern Parkway School, Uniondale School District, and the Uniondale
community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Salamah Adjoua-Mullen has committed her life to introducing
her students to a lifetime of learning while gaining cultural
understanding and the enhancement of global communication skills, and
fostering both excellence and equity in education; and
WHEREAS, School librarians such as Salamah Adjoua-Mullen teach
students to inquire, think critically, draw conclusions, make informed
decisions, and create and share knowledge in preparation for advanced
study and the workplace; and
WHEREAS, For the past 11 years, Salamah Adjoua-Mullen has served as
the lead library media specialist at Northern Parkway School in the
Uniondale School District; throughout her tenure, she has successfully
created programming to build the capacity cultural competence and
critical consciousness of the students, faculty and staff at Northern
Parkway School; and
WHEREAS, As lead library media specialist, Salamah Adjoua-Mullen is
also responsible for managing the school's library budget, serves as the
Northern Parkway instructional technology help desk, leads professional
development sessions throughout the school year, and serves as the
conduit and bridge between the Uniondale Public and the Uniondale School
District; and
WHEREAS, Salamah Adjoua-MuIIen has also initiated and lead a number
of important projects for the Northern Parkway School and the Uniondale
School District; since 2018, she has coordinated an annual community
walk to the library for students who attend Northern Parkway School,
allowing for students to learn and celebrate their community along with
building a greater relationship with their local library; and
WHEREAS, Through Salamah Adjoua-Mullen's superlative leadership,
innovative ideas and endless enthusiasm, Northern Parkway School has
been designated as a national and New York State School of Character and
has earned effective and highly effective building school ratings; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her role as lead library media specialist,
Salamah Adjoua-Mullen serves on the school's Building Advisory Board and
Spring and Fall Reopening teams, and since 2004, has held the title of
Adult Reference Librarian/Young Adult Librarian for the Uniondale Public
Library; and
WHEREAS, Salamah Adjoua-Mullen holds a number of educational degrees
and certifications including National Board Teacher Certification,
Masters of Library Science, Advance Certificate for Educational
Leadership, School Building Leader, School District Leader, Public
School Teacher Certificate for Library Media Specialist, NYS Public
State Public Librarian Certification, Public School Teacher Certificate
For Elementary Teachers Grades 1-6, and is currently a doctoral
candidate at Molloy College; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Salamah Adjoua-Mullen upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Outstanding Librarian Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Salamah Adjoua-Mullen.
