HONORING Lieutenant Robert Nelson upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years
of distinguished service to the Oneida County
Sheriff's Office

WHEREAS, Law enforcement officers from the State of New York put
their lives on the line day in and day out for the citizens of this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; Lieutenant
Robert Nelson is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lieutenant
Robert Nelson upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 30
years of distinguished service to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office;
and

WHEREAS, In 1989, Robert Nelson began his career in the Oneida
County Sheriff's Office as a corrections officer; one year later,
through his devotion to his profession, he was assigned to the position
of Deputy Sheriff in the Patrol Division; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, in 1993, Robert Nelson attained the respected
rank of Investigator and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Unit
(CIU); in 2000, he was promoted to Sergeant of the CIU and with his
skilled work ethic, in 2014, he distinguished himself and rose through
the ranks to become Lieutenant in the CIU, the esteemed position from
which he will retire; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, which spanned more than
three decades, Lieutenant Robert Nelson truly epitomized the role of a
community police officer; and

WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades throughout
his distinguished career, Lieutenant Robert Nelson has received a
multitude of departmental recognitions for his outstanding service to
the citizens of Oneida County; his accomplishments are both numerous and
notable; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lieutenant Robert Nelson upon the occasion of his retirement, and
to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lieutenant Robert Nelson.
