CELEBRATING the life and many accomplishments of
Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh, distinguished family man,
medical specialist, and dedicated member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Nabil J. Sayegh was born May 4, 1949, in Jordan, to Jamil
and Jalilah Sayegh and immigrated to the United States (New York) in
1957; following the sudden and unexpected passing of his father in 1965,
Nabil, the eldest of eight children, was left with the heavy
responsibility, along with his Mom, to help raise, guide and nurture his
siblings; and
WHEREAS, Learning at an early age the need to work hard, Nabil J.
Sayegh worked tirelessly to support his siblings and mother working at
least three to four jobs at a time throughout the city of Yonkers; and
WHEREAS, Nabil J. Sayegh graduated from Yonkers High School in 1965
and continued onto Lehman College graduating in 1972; after graduating
from college, he, along with four of his brothers, went on to attend
Medical School in Guadalajara, Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Nabil J. Sayegh became an accomplished Board-Certified
Physician and Surgeon with a respected and successful practice in
Urology in New City, New York since 1984; he was affiliated with Nyack
Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in Rockland County; and
WHEREAS, He also served as Assistant Faculty at New York Medical
College; living up to his name - Nabil means noble in Arabic - numerous
accounts of many of his patients will attest to his dedication and
personal compassion for his patients throughout his professional career;
and
WHEREAS, In 2017, Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh was honored by the faculty of
Nyack Hospital with the Physician of the Year Award for his professional
skills and dedication to his patients and to the hospital; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh was a devout Orthodox Christian with a
great love for his church; along with his Mother, he was one of the
founding members of his life-long home parish, the Virgin Mary
Antiochian Church of Yonkers, New York, where he worked throughout his
life, giving of his time, efforts, love and contributions; he served as
the Parish Council Chairman for many years; and
WHEREAS, Within the church, Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh served as a mentor
to many of the young parishioners; numerous young members of the church
community wanted to become a doctor simply because of Nabil's positive
influence; his impact is still present today in the community and many
still thank him for his support; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh was awarded the Antonion Medal of Honor
by the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese for his lifelong dedication and
love of the Church; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh had extensive awareness and skills in
Multi-Cultural Issues, Global Affairs and History combined with being a
strong advocate of Family and Traditional Values; and
WHEREAS, A pillar within his family, community, and church, Dr.
Nabil J. Sayegh said to his family "In America, there are no excuses,
especially when you have an education."; despite the odds of helping to
raise a large family at a young age, working through elementary, high
school and college, for Nabil was the epitome of the American dream,
always believing in himself, and guiding the future generations; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the
grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and many accomplishments of Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh, and
to express its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dr. Nabil J. Sayegh; Clarkstown Urology in
Nyack, New York; Nyack Hospital, and Virgin Mary Church in Yonkers, New
York.
