MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
March 12, 2021, as Mutual Aid Workers' Day in the
State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the
community; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 12, 2021, as
Mutual Aid Workers' Day in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Mutual Aid groups offer communities the opportunity to
connect, both virtually and in person, in order to share support and
resources during times of crisis and beyond; these systems are
successful because everyone has something to contribute, and everyone
has something they need; and

WHEREAS, Mutual Aid is a network of volunteers who work together to
provide help for the community when the usual sources cannot or will
not; some of these services include homeless outreach, offering hygiene
products, community composting, picking up prescriptions, transportation
to and from medical appointments, cleaning up parks, free education and
support; and

WHEREAS, As New York State, the United States of America and the
world as a whole deal with COVID-19, more and more people and groups
have come together to help their fellow man, woman and child during this
unprecedented global emergency; and

WHEREAS, In light of their commitment, dedication, and successful
efforts, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to extend its highest
commendation to the many ordinary citizens who have joined hands in
solidarity to organize Mutual Aid groups in the State of New York; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 12, 2021, as
Mutual Aid Workers' Day in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
