HONORING Gary Hill upon the occasion of his
retirement after 60 years of distinguished service
to New York State
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals whose exemplary careers,
accomplishments, and purposeful lives of service on behalf of their
profession and the environment have significantly enhanced the quality
of life in the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
recognize and commend Gary Hill upon the occasion of his retirement
after 60 years of distinguished service to the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Eagle Bridge, New York, Gary Hill began his
illustrious career with the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation (DEC) in 1963, as a wildlife technician; and
WHEREAS, Gary Hill gave tirelessly of his time and energies to the
DEC for more than 30 years, playing a central role in a project that
became one of his proudest accomplishments, restoring the Bald Eagle
population along the Hudson River; and
WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the DEC in 1995, Gary Hill took a
job with New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at
Moreau Lake State Park, originally serving on the maintenance crew; and
WHEREAS, Highly experienced and widely respected, Gary Hill was
instrumental in building the Moreau Lake State Park Nature Center and
Education Program; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Gary Hill, the nature center,
which began as a developing concept, has grown into a thriving program
that continues to serve thousands; and
WHEREAS, An avid hunter, trapper and fisherman since youth, Gary
Hill also continues to hike daily and is the go-to person for emergency
rescues on remote wilderness trails; his encyclopedic knowledge of
wildlife and the natural world makes him highly regarded by naturalists
across the state; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Gary Hill was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, Throughout an extraordinary career, which traversed six
decades, Gary Hill served the State of New York with loyalty, honor and
distinction, truly earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Gary Hill has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Gary Hill has served the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation, New York State Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation, the environment, and the people of the State of
New York with honor and distinction; his accomplishments and
contributions will most assuredly brook the passage of time and be
recorded as significantly improving the quality of life for us all; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gary Hill upon the occasion of his retirement, and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gary Hill.
