COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Oswego
County Pioneer Search and Rescue Team

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
give outstanding service to the people of the Empire State and whose
extraordinary achievements save the lives of their fellow citizens
should be recognized because their efforts so profoundly strengthen our
shared commitment to family and community life; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Oswego County Pioneer Search and
Rescue Team; and

WHEREAS, Since August of 1971, the Oswego County Pioneer Search and
Rescue Team has participated in hundreds of searches throughout New York
State, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, The Oswego County Pioneer Search and Rescue Team was the
first citizen-led search and rescue organization to form in New York
State; they have served as a model for other citizen-led search and
rescue groups; and

WHEREAS, Team members are certified and trained in search
techniques, DEC basic search and rescue, basic land navigation,
wilderness first aid, survival, communications, project life saver, the
national Incident Command System (ICS), and other skills that enable
them to deal with most search and rescue situations; and

WHEREAS, The Pioneer Search and Rescue Team has been recognized by
the Oswego County Legislature as the county's official search and rescue
team and as such, is a first-tier response agency through the 9-1-1
emergency system; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility their own by
serving as volunteers; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and teams of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Oswego County Pioneer Search and
Rescue Team; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Oswego County Pioneer Search and Rescue Team.
