MOURNING the untimely death of Trooper James J.
Monda, committed law enforcement officer and devoted
member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a courageous and hardworking police officer who dedicated his purposeful
life and career in faithful service to the residents of New York State;
and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the passing of James J. Monda, a native of Rotterdam, New York,
who accidentally drowned on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the age of 45;
and
WHEREAS, Veteran Trooper James J. Monda, a Princetown-based member
of a marine patrol unit since 2017, went into the Great Sacandaga Lake
wearing dive gear for reasons that are unknown to authorities; and
WHEREAS, Trooper James J. Monda entered the water at a launch on
Bunker Hill Road and never resurfaced; he was pulled from the water and
taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead; and
WHEREAS, James J. Monda, who joined the New York State Police in
2002, spent most of his career in Troop G, the largest troop in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Well-liked by all, Trooper James J. Monda was highly
regarded and sincerely respected amongst his peers and by those he
served and protected; a conscientious and dedicated officer, he was
selected for some of the most sought-after State Police assignments,
such as the State Fair and the Marine Patrol assignment, which is
separate from the State Police Dive Team; and
WHEREAS, Trooper James J. Monda was forever dependable, loyal, and
kind, three extraordinary attributes that made him an amazing police
officer; he is survived by his fiancee and his parents; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, James J. Monda leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the
grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Trooper James J. Monda, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Trooper James J. Monda.
