CONGRATULATING Rhoda Fidler upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Rhoda
Fidler upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1922, Rhoda Wander grew up in Brooklyn, New York,
in the midst of the Great Depression; she inherited a social conscience
from her mother, Anna Rudnick, and a dynamic fortitude from her father,
Samuel Wander, founder of a manufacturing company which remains in
existence to this day; and
WHEREAS, In 1944, Rhoda married her high school sweetheart, Jay
Fidler, who at the time was proudly serving as a second lieutenant in
the United States Army; together, the couple raised their three
wonderful children in New Jersey and Westchester, New York; and
WHEREAS, A truly vital and devoted member of her community, Rhoda
Fidler worked as an Aide to Representatives Ogden Reid, Richard Ottinger
and Nita Lowey, volunteering actively and serving in governmental
leadership capacities well into her eighties; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades for her steadfast and unremitting commitment to
both her community and profession; she received the Westchester Ethical
Culture Society's Inaugural Ethics in Action Award and was inducted into
the Westchester Senior Hall of Fame in 2006, in recognition of her
remarkable service to others; and
WHEREAS, Rhoda Fidler, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Rhoda Fidler has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rhoda Fidler upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rhoda Fidler.
