CONGRATULATING Helen Arteaga Landaverde, MPH upon
the occasion of her promotion to CEO of New York
City Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the medical field who
distinguish themselves through professional excellence and who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Helen Arteaga Landaverde, MPH upon the occasion of her
promotion to CEO of New York City Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst; and

WHEREAS, Helen Arteaga Landaverde has given tirelessly of her time
and energies to the communities of Queens, New York, for more than two
decades, helping to bridge challenges to high-quality healthcare and
social services that further improve overall wellness; and

WHEREAS, Growing up in Corona, Queens, Helen Arteaga Landaverde
understood the role health care has on a community from an early age and
dreamed of establishing a community health center which would provide
quality health care to local residents; and

WHEREAS, Following the death of her father, Helen Arteaga Landaverde
set out to build the center in her beloved Corona; working with Our Lady
of Sorrows Church and other community leaders, she made her dream a
reality, opening Plaza del Sol Family Health Center in June of 2009; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Helen Arteaga Landaverde,
last year Plaza del Sol provided care to more than 29,000 patients
regardless of their ability to pay; furthermore, the health center was
dedicated in her father's memory in 2014; and

WHEREAS, For 15 years, Helen Arteaga Landaverde has also served
Urban Health Plan, a system of community health centers, most recently
as Assistant Vice President of the Queens Network and Executive
Initiatives which began six years ago; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, in March of 2016, Helen
Arteaga Landaverde was appointed to the New York City Health and
Hospitals Board of Directors and to the NYU Alumni Board of Directors;
and

WHEREAS, With a deep personal connection to the health system and
communities she will serve, Helen Arteaga Landaverde, in her new role as
CEO of New York City Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, will help lead the
hospitals' response to the novel coronavirus, addressing the ongoing
public health challenges some of the City's hardest hit communities in
Queens continue to face; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Helen Arteaga Landaverde will also
continue to grow innovative programs and re-engineer processes to
increase access to affordable and comprehensive health care for all
patients; and

WHEREAS, Helen Arteaga Landaverde holds a bachelor's degree from New
York University and a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia
University Mailman School of Public Health; this gifted woman went on to
earn a fellowship with the National Hispanic Leadership Institute and
Harvard Kennedy School of Government in September of 2010; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, she is currently completing her doctoral
degree at CUNY School of Public Health; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career, Helen Arteaga Landaverde
has been the proud recipient of numerous awards and accolades; she was
one of 31 women selected by the New York City Commission on Women's
Issues to be featured in "NYC Women: Make it Here, Make it Happen," a
series highlighting women who make a difference in their communities;
this incredible woman also received the Community Impact Award,
Humanitarian Award, and City of New York American Dreamer Award; and

WHEREAS, As a leader in her profession, Helen Arteaga Landaverde has
proven herself to be a great asset to the medical field and to the
health and welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate Helen Arteaga Landaverde, MPH upon the occasion of her
promotion to CEO of New York City Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Helen Arteaga Landaverde.
