COMMENDING Ralph Macchio upon the occasion of
being inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Ralph Macchio upon the occasion of being inducted into the
Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Every year, the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame publicly
commends the pursuit of athletic excellence, recognizes those who have
excelled, and strives to preserve Suffolk County's rich athletic
heritage; Ralph Macchio is truly deserving of this prestigious award;
and

WHEREAS, A long-time resident of Miller Place, New York, Ralph
Macchio is being recognized for his role as a culturally significant
icon for his work in promoting the benefits of the martial arts through
the "Karate Kid" movies and the Netflix series, "Cobra Kai"; and

WHEREAS, Ralph George Macchio Jr. was born to Rosalie (DeSantis) and
Ralph George Macchio on November 4, 1961, in Huntington, New York, and
graduated from the Half Hollow Hills Central School District; and

WHEREAS, After being discovered by a talent agent at the age of 16,
Ralph Macchio was cast as Daniel LaRusso, a bullied high school student
who learned karate from his friend and mentor, Mr. Miyagi, in the 1984
film, "The Karate Kid,"; the movie was a huge hit and Ralph Macchio
became a household name and served as a hero for the perpetual underdog;
and

WHEREAS, Ralph Macchio went on to star in two sequels, "The Karate
Kid Part II" and "The Karate Kid Part III," along with many other
movies, television shows and plays; and

WHEREAS, In 2018, Ralph Macchio reprised his role as Daniel LaRusso
in "Cobra Kai", an action comedy-drama Netflix series, in which he also
serves as co-executive producer; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife the former Phyllis
Fierro and their two children, Julia and Daniel, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Macchio has clearly made a contribution to the spirit
of excellence which is a tradition of his Suffolk community; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding accomplishments are brought to our

attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ralph Macchio upon the occasion of being inducted into the
Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ralph Macchio.
