CELEBRATING the life and accomplishments of Eric
R. DuVall, longtime journalist, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Eric R. DuVall of Buffalo, New York, died on Saturday,
February 12, 2022, at the age of 39; and

WHEREAS, Born on December 8, 1982, Eric R. DuVall was a native of
Amherst, New York; he was a 2000 graduate of Sweet Home High School and
a member of the Canisius College Class of 2004, where he was editor of
the Griffin, the college newspaper; and

WHEREAS, From an early age, Eric R. DuVall enjoyed writing; he even
attended summer writing camps at Canisius College as a youth; and

WHEREAS, He worked several jobs as a reporter and editor, and in
July of 2021, he landed a position as an assistant city editor at The
Buffalo News; and

WHEREAS, Eric R. DuVall, who spent much of his media career
reporting on the Tonawandas, was a well-known and well-respected fixture
in the Buffalo area, not only for his laudable work as a member of the
press, but also as a volunteer organizer for the popular food festival
Taste of Buffalo, and his undying love for the Buffalo Bills; and

WHEREAS, Eric R. DuVall helmed the Tonawanda News, and later the
Twin Cities Sun, weekly publications covering the City of Tonawanda,
North Tonawanda, the Town of Tonawanda, and the Village of Kenmore; and

WHEREAS, Few local reporters and editors had as thorough an
understanding of the community than Eric R. DuVall; his talent, humor
and commitment to journalistic ethics and principles secured his legacy
across the Tonawandas, the greater region and the profession to which he
devoted his adult life; and

WHEREAS, Eric R. DuVall distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Gary DuVall, Eric R. DuVall is
survived by his mother, Lori DuVall-Jackson; and his brother, Scott; as
well as his roommate, Robyn Ventura, and their dog, Omlette; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Eric R. DuVall leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the
grateful tribute of this Legislative Body now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and accomplishments of Eric R. DuVall, and to express
its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Eric R. DuVall.
