CELEBRATING the life and accomplishments of
Richard B. Lyman, dedicated public servant,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Lyman, a lifetime resident of Pound Ridge, New
York, died on Tuesday, February 1, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Lyman distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Lyman was a dedicated public servant in the
Town of Pound Ridge for nearly 50 years; and
WHEREAS, In the 1970s, he worked for the maintenance department and
was a part-time Pound Ridge Police Officer; in the 1980s and 1990s, he
was an active member and Chair of the Town Zoning Board; and in the
2000s, he was a member of the Town Board, Highway Administrator with the
Office of Emergency Management; and served as Town Supervisor from 2014
to 2017; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Lyman's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Lyman was instrumental in the transformation of
the Pound Ridge Golf Course from a 9-hole course to the state-of-the-art
18-hole gem it is today; and
WHEREAS, He also helped transform the old Trinity Corners Shopping
Center to the Pound Ridge Square and reenergized Scotts Corner Market,
as well as created the New Dawn Advocacy and Resource Center for Victims
of Domestic Violence in Northern Westchester; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Lyman's energies and efforts on behalf of the
Town of Pound Ridge has left a remarkable legacy; he worked for the
Summit Companies from 1974-2022, was a longtime member of the Pound
Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, mentored Pound Ridge Boy Scouts going
for their Eagle Scout badge, and was a Coach in Babe Ruth League
baseball; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Lyman is survived by his loving wife, Anne; and
devoted three sons, Brooks (Laura), Christian and Sean (Dava); as well
as three treasured grandchildren, Madison, Brooks Michael, and
MacKenzie; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Richard B. Lyman leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the
grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and accomplishments of Richard B. Lyman, and to
express its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Richard B. Lyman.
