MOURNING the death of Dennis Joseph Fleming,
loving husband, father and grandfather,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Dennis Joseph Fleming was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Dennis Joseph Fleming, noting
the significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Joseph Fleming of Staten Island, New York, died on
Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, Born in Staten Island on February 25, 1948, Dennis Joseph
Fleming graduated from St. Peters High School and St. Peters College;
and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary man spent his entire career serving the
interests of youth, first as a New York City area representative for
Junior Achievement and then as the first Executive Director of the
Rockland County Youth Bureau; and
WHEREAS, With an unwavering commitment to fostering a better life
for the people of Rockland, over the past four decades, Dennis Joseph
Fleming has been instrumental in cultivating the Rockland non-profit
community with his vision, energetic leadership, and networking skills;
and
WHEREAS, Dennis Joseph Fleming originated The Rockland Community
Foundation (RCF), an organization which proved to be closest to his
heart; furthermore, he and his wife established the Fleming/Fleur
Children's Fund to honor their lifetime of serving local youth; and
WHEREAS, For his leadership, advocacy, caring, support and
dedication, Dennis Joseph Fleming has been recognized with special
honors by many Rockland non-profits, receiving the Outstanding Volunteer
Award from the Rockland Development Council in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Joseph Fleming, who displayed many exceptional
talents and unique qualities, lived an immensely beautiful life built on
compassion and love; he was a news junkie who loved music, travel, good
food, and the New York Yankees, but his greatest passion was his family;
and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his brother Kevin, Dennis Joseph Fleming is
survived by his beloved wife, Gail Fleur; two sons, Frank (Mary) and
Dennis (Jenny); one sister, Rita (Kyle); a nephew, Chris; his
step-children, Ryan (Laura) and Dana (Max); and his eight grandchildren,
Ryan, Kaleigh, Ava, Neave, Maea, Robert, Anna, and Clark; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dennis Joseph Fleming leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dennis Joseph Fleming and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dennis Joseph Fleming.
