MOURNING the death of Larry Sharpe, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Larry Sharpe of Sloansville, New York, died on Tuesday,
November 23, 2021, at the age of 80; he will be remembered for his big
heart, his love of family, and his dedication to the community; and

WHEREAS, Born on February 9, 1941, in Cobleskill, New York, Larry
Sharpe was the son of Kenneth and Katherine (Lawyer) Sharpe; he
graduated from the former Cobleskill High School in 1959; and

WHEREAS, Larry Sharpe distinguished himself in an extraordinary
career with the Schoharie County Sheriff's Department; he gave
tirelessly of his time and energies to his community for many years,
climbing the ranks to become Sergeant, the esteemed position from which
he retired; and

WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Larry Sharpe was elected to serve
as Town Justice for the Town of Esperance where he served until
recently; he was newly elected to serve on the Town Council and was also
President of the Old Stone Fort Cemetery Association; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Larry Sharpe was a strong supporter of the Schoharie Indians
Sports Booster Club and served as the 1st Dare Officer for area schools;
he was also a Schoharie Little League coach and a member of the
committee responsible for acquiring the land and building two local
fields; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was a member of three different fire
departments over his lifetime: the Schoharie Fire Department,
Gallupville Fire Department, and Esperance Fire Department, as well as a
longtime leader of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; and

WHEREAS, In his spare time, Larry Sharpe enjoyed hunting, fishing,
attending his grandchildren's sporting events and serving his community;
and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his son, Kyle; Larry Sharpe is survived by
his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara (Diamond); three children; Brett
(Donna) Sharpe, Lance (Jill) Sharpe, and Kelly (Tom) Fagnani; and five
grandchildren, Dr. Katelyn (Alan) Colby, Logan Sharpe, Jacob, Noah, and
Abigail Fagnani; and

WHEREAS, Larry Sharpe's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives he touched; and


WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Larry Sharpe leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Larry Sharpe and to express its deepest condolences
to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Larry Sharpe.
