COMMEMORATING the 70th Anniversary of the Brooklyn
Chapter of Jack and Jill
WHEREAS, A great state is only as great as those persons or
organizations who provide service to their community, whether through
social activism, professional achievement, good citizenship or other
endeavors; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
70th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill; and
WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., founded in 1938, is a
not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing leadership
development opportunities for African American children and teens; and
WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is composed of more than
11,000 mother-members who represent more than 40,000 family members in
245 chapters throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill was founded in May
1952; it was on Founder Louise Truitt Jackson Dench's trip to Brooklyn
in the late 1930s where the idea for the organization was conceived and
she held the first club meeting of Jack and Jill at her Philadelphia
home on January 21, 1938; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1952, the Brooklyn Chapter became the 39th
chapter of the illustrious organization; Jack and Jill has continued to
remain a treasure and beacon of light to the community; and
WHEREAS, During the pandemic, the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill
gave more than $10,000 to the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger and the
Brownsville Community Culinary Center; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill donated
hundreds of books to the community library; the organization partnered
with youth and packed 100 take-home food boxes with the Brownsville
Community Culinary Center; and they hosted several informational Zoom
candidate forums to bring awareness during election cycles and held
voter registrations drives; and
WHEREAS, Jack and Jill's commitment to their mission and the
community is the ultimate testament to the greatness that results from
servitude, integrity, selflessness and outstanding community service;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and
Jill, an upstanding community organization whose significant
contributions to the advancement of its community are worthy of esteem
and recognition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill.
