CONGRATULATING Edward Liao upon the occasion of
capturing the New York State Public High School
Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Tennis Singles
Championship on June 4, 2023

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Edward Liao upon the occasion of capturing the NYSPHSAA Tennis Singles
Championship on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the USTA Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Queens, New York; and

WHEREAS, Commack High School Junior Edward Liao took home the
championship title after a competitive three sets against Braeden
Gelletich of Goshen, ultimately scoring 6-2, 4-6, and 6-2 for the
commendable win; and

WHEREAS, Family members, friends, and the community at large loyally
and enthusiastically supported Edward Liao throughout his journey as he
ended the season with an impressive record; and

WHEREAS, With this impressive win, Edward Liao became the first
Commack High School player to win the state singles title, and one of
three players to secure the title in Suffolk County history; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this young man is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Jimmy Delevante, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride,
and accomplishment, and Edward Liao has clearly contributed to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Edward Liao upon the occasion of capturing the NYSPHSAA
Tennis Singles Championship on June 4, 2023; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Edward Liao, and Coach Jimmy Delevante.
