COMMENDING Sergeant Jack Herbert Hallenbeck
posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Sergeant
Jack Herbert Hallenbeck posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Jack Herbert Hallenbeck was born on March 21, 1932, to the
late Anna Hallenbeck in Hudson, New York, where he graduated from Hudson
High School in 1949; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his studies, Jack Herbert Hallenbeck
proudly served his country for three years as a member of the United
States Army, during which time he was stationed in both the United
States and Japan, obtaining the esteemed rank of Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the Korean War, Sergeant
Jack Herbert Hallenbeck was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Army
Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal,
United Nations Service Medal, and New York State Medal of Merit; and

WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge, Jack Herbert Hallenbeck
worked for the V&O Press and L&B Corp, from which he retired; and

WHEREAS, A devoted husband, loving father, and caring grandfather
and great-grandfather, Jack Herbert Hallenbeck and his adored wife,
Elizabeth (Betty) Hallenbeck, were married for 60 wonderful years until
her passing; Jack and Betty shared the same date and year of birth, and
were born at the same hospital, proving to be inseparable from the very
beginning; together, the couple raised four beloved children; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his community
and local veteran organizations, Jack Herbert Hallenbeck was a past
chairman and member of Columbia County Honor-a-Vet, past commander and
member of the Korean War Veterans Chapter 283, as well as a member of
the Greenbush Reformed Church, VFW Post No. 1314, Greenport Seniors, and
Columbia County Golden Agers; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, truly dedicated to honoring the Nation's
deceased veterans, one of Jack's proudest accomplishments, besides his
family, was helping the Korean War Veteran's raise the funds to erect a
Korean War Memorial in Hudson, New York; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Sergeant Jack Herbert Hallenbeck demonstrated his love for his country
and merits forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sergeant Jack Herbert Hallenbeck posthumously upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Sergeant Jack Herbert Hallenbeck.
