HONORING Elizabeth Stack in recognition of the
critical work she has done for the Irish American
Heritage Museum and in her teaching and research of
Irish American History

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance and high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Elizabeth Stack in recognition of the critical work she has done for the
Irish American Heritage Museum and in her teaching and research of Irish
American history; and

WHEREAS, Born in Listowel, in County Kerry, Ireland, Elizabeth
Stack, PhD, has worked tirelessly as a teacher and researcher, and in
her role as Executive Director of the Irish American Heritage Museum;
and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Stack created exhibits on diverse Irish and Irish
American subjects, managed the annual budget of the Irish American
Heritage Museum, and supervised dedicated staff and volunteers at the
museum; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Stack was a recipient of the "Kate Mullany Medal"
given by the American Labor Studies Center, which manages the Kate
Mullany National Historic Site in Troy, New York and was appointed to
the interim board of the American Irish Historical Society by New York
State Attorney General Letitia James; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Stack has sought and received numerous grants
from the Irish government, arts councils in the United States, and the
New York State Legislature; has been successful in advocating for the
Irish government to support a number of important projects; and has
established a strong ongoing partnership with the Irish Department of
Foreign Affairs; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to her purpose, Elizabeth Stack developed
cultural, historical, and educational program of lectures, performances,
films and readings from an array of national and international experts
and performers, and also developed a monthly program of events which
linked the immigrant experience of the Irish to that of other cultural,
ethnic, and racial groups; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Stack led the creation of the "Kerry Irish
Cottage" and tenement apartment, both of which are current attractions
in the Irish American Heritage Museum, and also led the relocation of
the Irish American Heritage Museum to Quackenbush Square and presented
to numerous groups from Ireland and colleges in the Capital Region and
Northeast; and


WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the residents
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elizabeth Stack in recognition of the critical work she has done
for the Irish American Heritage Museum and in her teaching and research
of Irish American history; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elizabeth Stack.
